Mr Simon Chong

Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon

Simon is a New Zealand and Australian trained specialist Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon. A University of Auckland graduate, he qualified as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2014. After an 18 month fellowship at Macquarie University Hospital in Sydney, he returned to New Zealand to take up public appointments at Waikato and Thames Hospitals, before committing to full-time private practice in 2023 to found the National Lymphatic Surgery Service. He has travelled worldwide to learn lymphatic surgery from international experts, including Australia, Sweden, The Netherlands, and Japan.

 

During his public tenure, he served as Head of Department, RACS Supervisor of Training for the Waikato Region, and Deputy Chair of the NZ Board of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery. In 2023, he was honoured by the RACS Academy of Surgical Educators as Aotearoa NZ Supervisor of the Year. Despite no longer being part of Te Whatu Ora / Health NZ, Simon remains highly active in service to his specialty. He is an elected councillor for the New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons, and serves as an examiner for the RACS Clinical Examination. He continues to teach microsurgery for the NZ Plastic Reconstructive Surgery specialist training programme. He has published research papers as first author in high impact speciality journals, including Annals of Surgery, Journal of Hand Surgery and Plastic Surgery Clinics.

 

Simon believes in an affable consulting style, with an emphasis on spending plenty of time with patients promoting understanding and engagement.

Formerly a surgical operations manager at Waikato Hospital, Louise has significant experience in advancing patient-centered care through her business acumen and people skills. While her wonderful smile is found on the practice front lines, behind the scenes she is a driving force behind the National Lymphatic Surgery Service and our future visions.

Linda Beattie

Practice Administrator

Linda has been our practice administrator for many years, and has a deep understanding of reconstructive plastic surgical patients and their needs. She is much loved for her friendly and empathetic approach to patient interaction. She is often the first point of contact with the practice, and deftly coordinates care to make things seamless. Simply put, Linda makes things possible.
